When Wolmer’s won the UTech Classic in 45.38 seconds, that time established a new school record but isn’t the fastest by a Jamaican team this year. That belongs to the Vere Class 2 team, winners at the Gibson Relays and Champs, at 45.12.

Edwin Allen ran 45.32 with ineligible Oracabesa transfer Christania Williams in the Western Relays Class 2 race in Montego Bay. Nevertheless, Edwin Allen has times of 45.40 at UTech and 45.43 in the Champs Class 1 heat.
Despite that, the best Jamaican team may be Holmwood, the Penn Relays defending champion. Holmwood has run sub-46 in Classes 1 and 3. With 2010 anchor Diana Johnson coming back to full fitness and Class 1 200 champion Yanique Ellington rested from the 45.46 UTech race, Holmwood could be the first to break 45 seconds in 2011.
If Long Beach Poly is there...
Holmwood isn’t the only team with big names. Wolmer’s has Shauna Helps, the Class 3 100/200 winner, Carifta Trials under-17 200 winner Jonielle Smith and Class 2 100 winner Cardine Copeland, while 200 star Shericka Jackson anchors Vere.
Edwin Allen could be faster in Philadelphia if Saqukine Cameron, the 2010 Class 3 100/200 runner-up, is back from early season leg worries.
Herbert Morrison, 46.09 in Class 1 at Champs, will be dangerous if 2010 World Junior semifinalist Seidatha Palmer is fit.
If Long Beach Poly makes the trip from California, expect its 45.70 quartet to be in the Championships of America final.
