Confident that they would go into "the lion’s den” and take gold medals, the Bahamian athletes at the 40th Carifta Games in Montego Bay, Jamaica, launched their mission yesterday, the first day of the competition, by winning three of the four 100m finals, as well as a quarter-mile race. After months of uncertainty over whether the 2011 Carifta Games would be a reality, the Games are now less than 24 hours away, beginning tomorrow and running through Monday, the 25th, in Montego Bay, Jamaica’s number two city. Tomorrow will bring a new level of excitement that slowly mounted over the past few weeks, as Caribbean islands put their teams together, some with the formidable goal in mind of seriously challenging perennial champions Jamaica.
