Jamaica’s Jura Levy captured the women sprint double and ran on the South Plains College (Texans) 4x1 and 4x4 relay teams to lead her team to title at the 2010 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Track and Field Championships in Hutchinson, Kansas over the weekend. South Plains won the women’s title with 161 points ahead of Central Arizona (103).
Levy, the former Vere Technical student, captured the 100m in 11.15 (5.9 ws) ahead of Central Arizona’s Tameka Williams (11.39), with Levy’s teammates Grenada’s Janelle Redhead (11.44) and Jamaica’s Shawna Anderson (11.49) in 3rd and 4th, respectively. Later, Levy led a South Plains sweep in the 200m, winning in 22.95 (3.4 ws) followed by Redhead (23.04) and Nicquel Thomas (23.52). Levy and Redhead then helped South Plains to victory in the 4x1 relays (44.80) and the 4x4 relays (3.38.61).
Former Edwin Allen (Jamaica) standout Shakeeri Cole, also of South Plains, won the 800m (2:08.50) ahead of teammate Lisa Forsberg (2:10.81).
Grenada’s Colleen Felix also of South Plains won the javelin competition with a throw of 46.75m/ 153-04.
On The Men’s Side:
Grenada’s Rondell Bartholomew led the Texans to the men’s title (142 points). South Plains swept the top three places in the 400m, which Rondell won in 45.53. He was followed by teammates Anton Kokorin (46.08) and Troy Faulkner (47.50). Bartholomew, Kokorin and Faulkner later joined Kevin Morgan to capture the Men’s 4x4 relay in 3:07.79. Bartholomew also ran on the 4x1 team that finished second (40.78) to Central Arizona (40.25).
Trinidad and Tobago and South Plains freshman Quincy Wilson was second in the discus with a throw of 52.75m (173’-01”) behind Barton County College Max Alonso (53.56m/ 175’-09”). Wilson’s fellow countryman and South Plains teammate Dellon Williams leaped to 7.66m (25’-01.75”) to take 2nd place in the long jump. Williams, the Cunipia High School (T&T) graduate finished ahead of his Texan teammate Kyron Blaise (7.54m.)
Andre Peart, the former Kingston College (Jam) standout now representing Barton County College, captured silver in the Men’s 400m hurdles in 53.04 secs.
