Trinidad and Tobago’s National Association of Athletics Administration (NAAA) recently announced the team that will represent the twin-island republic at the 2011 Pan American Games to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico from October 14 to 30. The Track and Field segment will run from the 23rd through the 30th at the Telmex Athletics Stadium.
Heading the list for the women’s team will be Cleopatra Borel, who will compete in the women’s shot put. Also in the women’s lineup will be Pilar McShine who recently returned home after completing her 4-year university degree at Florida State University in the United States. McShine, Trinidad’s national record holder for the women’s 1500m (4:14.20) and 3000m (9:18.29) is down to contest the 1500m.
In the men’s category Emmanuel Callender and Darrel Brown will both vie for places in the final of the men’s 100m, while Jamaal James, who recently ran an impressive 1:47.7 in Brussels, will compete in the 800m men.
Medal prospect Quincy Wilson, the former South Plains College (Texas) student will contest the discus throw. He threw a personal best 59.60m at the NAAA Sagicor Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in August 2011.
Carifta record holder, Keshorn Walcott will compete in the men’s javelin event. At the April 2011 Games in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Walcott hurled the javelin 67.82m, and at the NAAA Twilight meet in June 2011 he broke his own record with a massive 72.87m.
