The Jamaica duo of Natoya Goule and Kemoy Campbell, representing South Plains College in Texas, captured the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Cross Country titles at the Ocotillo Golf Club in Hobbs, New Mexico yesterday.
The 20-year-old Goule, in her second year with the Lady Texans, covered the women 5km course in 18 minute, 45.16secs ahead of Anna Buenneke (North Iowa Area/ 19:04.14) and fellow South Plains teammate Darroneshia Lott (19:07.44). Goule, the former Manchester High school student, is a rising star in the mid-distance running for Jamaica and has personal bests of 51.52secs in the 400m and 2:01.45 in the 800m.
Kemoy Campbell, the former Carifta champion, took the men’s titles, covering the 8km course in 25 minutes, 22.08secss ahead of Edward Limo (Colby CC/ 26:00.44) and Viktor Slesarenoks (Cloud County CC/ 26:17.75). Campbell, formerly of Bellfield High School, took early control of the race and never looked back, cruising to a 38-second victory.
Both Campbell and Goule are winning their first individual cross county titles after earning runner-up spots last year.
