In an effort to help guarantee that the correct number of athletes will be entered into each athletics event at the London 2012 Olympic Games, the qualification standards in six disciplines have been adjusted lower than what was originally approved by the IAAF in April 2011.
According to the IAAF, the review of standards isn’t exceptional, with the performance trends in each case under constant scrutiny.
The changes came after a look at the results of the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu and the overall 2011 world season lists.
