Penn Relays.
Young Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake, who last season gave Tyson Gay a run for his money, ran a superb 200m race yesterday to beat former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell of the MVP Track Club, at the 4th University of Technology (UTech) Classic at the National Stadium in Kingston.
Powell, who led the field coming off the turn, was overtaken by Blake at the 150m mark. Blake, representing Racers Track Club, then powered away to beat the field in 20.33secs, followed by his Antiguan clubmate Daniel Bailey (20.52). Powell was third in 20.55secs.
Meanwhile, Kaliese Spencer, the 2009 World Championships 400m hurdles finalist, continued good early season form by winning the flat 400m. The MVP athlete produced a Classic record in 50.95secs – the 2nd fastest time in the world this year – ahead of World Championships semi-finalist Christine Day, who clocked 52.08.
Racers’ Josef Robertson registered a meet record of 50.15secs to win the men's 400m hurdles ahead of teammate and 2008 Olympic finalist Markino Buckley (50.80).
Schoolgirl Ristanana Tracey, winner of three gold medals for the flat 400m, the 400m hurdles and the 800m at Jamaica’s recent Boys and Girls Athletics Championships, lowered her 800m personal best to 2 minutes 03.91 seconds in taking the high school girls event. Although she's in peak form, Tracey will not be competing at this weekend’s Carifta Games in her homeland. Other results
