Coming off wins at the Jamaica International Invitational last weekend, veteran 400m runner Novlene Williams-Mills of Jamaica and young 110m hurdles star Hansle Parchment, also of Jamaica, have been added to the lineup for the June 9 adidas Grand Prix at the Icahn Stadium, Randall’s Island, New York.
Williams-Mills, 30, the 2007 World Championships bronze medalist who owns a half dozen 4x400m relay medals
from the Olympics and World Championships, ran a world-leading 49.99secs on Saturday (May 5) to defeat American Sanya Richards-Ross.
Yesterday, Williams-Mills won the 400m in 50.35 at the inaugural Cayman Invitational track and field meet, defeating Canada’s Jenna Martin (51.69) and USA Keisha (51.73).
Parchment, just 21 years old, notched a personal-best 13.19 in winning the sprint hurdles at the same event. The 2011 World University Games gold medalist, who was fifth in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, joins a deep and exciting field at the adidas Grand Prix that already includes reigning World Champions Jason Richardson, 2008 Olympic bronze medalist David Oliver, and Aries Merritt, the World Indoor Champion at the 60m hurdles, who
ran a personal-best and world-leading 13.03 in winning a meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas last weekend, after posting a wind-aided 12.99 in his heat.
