Sherone Simpson, Jamaica’s 2008 Olympic silver medalist in 100m and 2004 Olympic 4x1m relay gold medalist, as well as quarter-miler Jermaine Gonzales, a 2011 World Championships 4x4 relay bronze medalist have been added to the list of athletes to compete at the June 9 adidas Grand Prix at the Icahn Stadium in New York. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
Senior athletes Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and World champion Yohan Blake are also down to compete.
Recently added, too, is Jamaican schoolboy Jazeel Murphy, listed to compete in the Dream 100. The two-time Under-20 Carifta Games 100m champion will face Marvin Bracy of the US and Levonte Whitfield, one of the top high school sprinters in the country. A student at Bridgeport High School in St. Catherine, Jamaica, Murphy has a personal best of 10.27secs.
Bracy, the 2011 Pan Am Junior Games gold medalist, ran 6.08secs for 55m this winter to break the national high-school record. A two-time Florida state champion in the sprint double and a football All-American, the Boone High School senior is the defending Dream 100 champion.
