Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce called on her signature bullet start to beat a strong field yesterday, June 9, which included the USA’s 2011 World 100m champion, Carmelita Jeter, at the 2012 adidas Grand Prix in New York. In winning, she posted a season best 10.92secs to signal that she is back and ready for the Jamaica National Trials in three weeks.
On May 31, the defending Olympic champion, who has been working on different phases of her race since the season began, trailed Ivory Coast’s Murielle Ahoure in 11.06secs in Rome. Ahoure’s time was 11.00secs flat.

Running second to Fraser-Pryce in New York was long-jumper-turned-sprinter Tianna Madison of the US in a personal best 10.97. Jeter followed in 11.05 while Allyson Felix of the US was fourth and Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), fifth, both in 11.07. Rounding out the nine-person field were Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare, Schillonie Calvert of Jamaica, Bianca Knight and Barbara Pierre of the US.
In a less-spectacular men’s edition, Jamaica’s 2011 World champion Yohan Blake won in 9.90 over T&T’s Keston Bledman (9.93), US’s Mike Rodgers (9.99), T&T’s Richard Thompson (10.09), US’s Trell Kimmons (10.15), Antigua and Barbuda’s Daniel Bailey (10.20), Zambia’s Gerald Phiri (10.21), US’s Travis Padgett (10.23) and Jamaica’s Ramone McKenzie (10.27).
