World and Olympics double-gold medalist Jamaica’s Usain Bolt leads a strong contingent of Caribbean track athlete to the 50th Ostrava Golden Spike Challenge today in the Czech Republic. Bolt is slated to compete in the 100m after opening up his season last Thursday at the Golden Gala meet in Rome with a 9.91secs performance, narrowly beating compatriot Asafa Powell (9.93) in the process. Jamaica’s Schillonie Calvert blasted a good field to win the 100m in The Netherlands today. She clocked a legal 11.05secs (1.7w) to dispose of the veteran Bahamas’s Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie (11.12) and Ruddy Zang of Gabon (11.23). The US trio of LaShauntea Moore, Stephanie Durst, and Barbara Pierre ran fourth, fifth and sixth in 11.27, 11.31, and 11.45, respectively. Full Story »
