Steve Mullings, Jamaica’s 2009 World Championships sprint relay gold medalist, took advantage of the fast track and high altitude to lower his recent personal best 9.89secs over the 100m, clocking 9.80 (1.3m/s) to win and establish a world-leading time and meet record at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meeting in Eugene, Oregon today. The Prefontaine Classic being held today and tomorrow (June 3 & 4) in Eugene, Oregon will feature several Caribbean athletes, who are rounding into top shape for the ultimate destination: Daegu, South Korea in August. Olympic and World 100m champion Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Steve Mullings and Nesta Carter, and Trinidad’s Richard Thompson will lead the charge for the region. Full Story »

Penn Relay fans have never seen Asafa Powell start a relay there, and the last time they saw him anchor one was in 2009 when pulled up some 30 meters into the race after aggravating an ankle injury and hobbled to 41.24secs behind the high-powered US teams, among others, much to the disappointment of the crowd that wanted to see him put on a show.
