Travis Smikle of Calabar High School erased the national junior discus record with a 66.88 meters throw at Jamaica’s Boys and Girls Athletics Championships (Champs) in Kingston yesterday. Smikle, who placed second last year to teammate Chad Wright – with whom he had a ding-dong battle last season – beat teammate Frederick Dacres, who threw 51.93m. A day after setting a new meet record of 18.32m in the Under-20 shot put at the 18th Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Junior Track and Field Championships in Santo Domingo, Jamaica’s double national junior record-holder Chad Wright
was upset in the discus event by Trinidad and Tobago's Quincy Wilson, who had only two legal throws in the competition. Full Story »
