Jamaican Bobby-Gaye Wilkins Suspended

Jamaican quarter-miler Bobby-Gaye Wilkins was suspended for two years (Apr. 9, 2010 to Apr. 8, 2012) by the JAAA (Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association) for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance at the 13th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar in March this year. Jamaica Won’t Be Upgraded to Sydney Olympic Gold

A ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) yesterday dashed Jamaica’s hopes of being upgraded from silver to gold for the women’s 4x400m relay at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
 
The International Olympic Committee's (IOC) had decided to disqualify the winning US team because Marion Jones, one of its members, was found guilty of doping. However, following an appeal to CAS by members of the team except one, CAS has ruled against disqualifying the entire US team because of the doping of one athlete. Full Story »

South Plains Freshman Bartholomew Runs Sub-45 Relay Leg

South Plains College freshman Rondell Bartholomew has made his intention known that he will be a force to be reckoned with this season. The Grenadian native and former CARIFTA 400m champion ran a quick 44.63 secs on the anchor leg of the 4x4 relay at the Texas Relay Meet this past weekend. The South Plains freshman team of Isaiah Gills, Troy Faulkner, Anton Kokorin and Bartholomew won in 3.03.74, a new Junior College record.
It was only recently that Bartholomew told Caribbean TrackLife Magazine that his target is 44.39 for the 400m this outdoor season. He seems well on his way to achieving this goal. Full Story »
