US Dominates London Diamond League Day 2

Day 2 of the 2010 London Diamond League on August 14 was dominated by US athletes, highlighted by victories by Allyson Felix in the 200m (22.37) and 400m (50.79), Wallace Spearman in the 200m (20.12), Marshevet Myers in the 100m (11.01), Bershawn Jackson in the 400m hurdles (48.12), Dwight Phillips in the long jump (8.18m), Jeremy Wariner in the 400m (44.67) and the red-hot David Oliver in the 110m hurdles (13.06). Reese Hoffa in the shot put (21.44m) and Bernard Lagat in the 5000m 7.40.36 were also in the winners circle. However, several Caribbean athletes performed well. Full Story »

Yohan Blake Runs 100m Personal Best in London

Yohan Blake continued his meteor rise in world class sprinting with an impressive 9.89 secs (-0.4 m/s) personal best (PB) performance in the 100m at the London Diamond League meet yesterday. Blake, the 20-year-old 2006 IAAF World Juniors 100m bronze medalist, came from behind the pack to finish second place to a red-hot Tyson Gay of the US, who took the event in a season best, meet record and world-leading 9.78. Mothersill, Green Set CAC Games Records

Twenty-three-year-old Leford Green won the men’s 400m hurdles for Jamaica yesterday in a new Games record 48.47 secs ahead of Puerto Rico’s Javier Culson (48.58) and fellow Jamaican countryman Roxroy Cato (49.62). Full Story »

Caribbean Stars Light Up Paris Sky

Yesterday, the future looked even brighter for Jamaica, the sprint factory, as three of its nationals swept the top three spots in the 100m at the Paris Diamond League. Usain Bolt led the charge with 9.84 secs, ahead of Asafa Powell (9.91 secs) and Yohan Blake (9.95 secs. Full Story »)

Powell Goes Under 20 Secs. at Jamaica Nationals

Former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell captured the 200m title at the 2010 Jamaica National Senior Championships earlier this evening. Powell made up the stagger and by the top of the curve had a 5-meter lead on the field before powering his way to a season best 19.97 secs. Full Story »

Bolt’s Absence Won’t Dampen Jamaica Trials

This year’s Jamaica National Championships get underway today, Saturday and will feature a number of current and future stars. Therefore, the absence of Usain Bolt, as well as other quality athletes, from the two-day event is not expected to put a damper on the Trials, which will see Asafa Powell, Shelly-Ann Fraser, Nesta Carter, Michael Frater and Shericka Williams, among others, competing. Evans Leads NCAA East Region Caribbean Qualifiers

Bermuda native and University of Georgia (UGA) sophomore Aaron Evans led a number of Caribbean qualifiers from the East Regional onto the NCAA Championships Final to be held in Eugene, Oregon June 9 to 12. His time of 1:46.26 secs in the 800m at the NCAA East Regional on Friday, May 28, lowered both the UGA school record and the Bermudian record from 1:47.00, which he established two weeks ago. Texas's Pinder Clocks PB in the West

Bahamas’s Demetrius Pinder ran a lifetime best of 44.93 secs in the 400m at the NCAA West Regional in Austin, Texas over the weekend to punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon Jun 9 to 12. The aspiring actor and Texas A&M junior improved on his previous personal record of 45.89 and has positioned him to be one of the favorites in Eugene. Full Story »

Bolt Blazes to 19.76 in Shanghai

Jamaica’s Usain ‘Lightning’ Bolt blazed to victory in the 200m, in a meet record 19.76 secs at the IAAF Diamond League Shanghai today. Bolt, who ran 19.56 in the 200m at the Jamaican Invitational in May 8, 2010, promised that he would work hard in this race. The reigning Olympics and World Championships 200m record holder ran a control race, sprinting away from the USA duo of Angelo Taylor (20.34) and Ryan Bailey (20.43). Bolt’s compatriot and training partner, Marvin Anderson, was 4th in a season best 20.48 secs. Full Story »

Levy, Bartholomew Lead South Plains to NJCAA Titles

Jamaica’s Jura Levy captured the women sprint double and ran on the South Plains College (Texans) 4x1 and 4x4 relay teams to lead her team to title at the 2010 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Track and Field Championships in Hutchinson, Kansas over  the weekend. South Plains won the women’s title with 161 points ahead of Central Arizona (103).
Grenada’s Rondell Bartholomew led the Texans to the men’s title (142 points). South Plains swept the top three places in the 400m, which Rondell won in 45.53 secs. Full Story »
