Jamaica Won’t Be Upgraded to Sydney Olympic Gold

A ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) yesterday dashed Jamaica’s hopes of being upgraded from silver to gold for the women’s 4x400m relay at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
 
The International Olympic Committee's (IOC) had decided to disqualify the winning US team because Marion Jones, one of its members, was found guilty of doping. However, following an appeal to CAS by members of the team except one, CAS has ruled against disqualifying the entire US team because of the doping of one athlete. Full Story »

T&T's Wilson Turns Table on Jamaica's Chad Wright

A day after setting a new meet record of 18.32m in the Under-20 shot put at the 18th Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Junior Track and Field Championships in Santo Domingo, Jamaica’s double national junior record-holder Chad Wright was upset in the discus event by Trinidad and Tobago's Quincy Wilson, who had only two legal throws in the competition. NACAC Championships for Miramar July 9 to 11

The City of Miramar in Florida will be buzzing July 9 to 11, when an unprecedented showing of some 500 athletes from 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) compete in the Under 23 Track and Field Championships at the Ansin Sports Complex.

Under the auspices of the IAAF (International Amateur Athletics Federation) and the USATF (USA Track & Field), the Championships will see athletes representing Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, the Netherland Antilles, Nicaragua, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, the USA, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Events to be contested include Javelin, Long Jump, Discus Throw, Shot Put, High Jump, Pole Vault, Hammer Throw, various distance races and hurdles.

Training Partners Inseparable in France

Jamaica’s Yohan Blake and Antigua’s Daniel Bailey, training partners of the Racers Track Club in Jamaica, finished in a dead heat in the men's 100m dash at Alma Athlé Tour in Reims, France on Wednesday, June 30. Both crossed the line in 10 seconds flat (-0.1w) and not even a photo-finish could separate them. Full Story »

Campbell-Brown Gets The Better Of Felix In New York

Olympic and World Championships 200m arch-rivals Veronica Campbell-Brown (Jam) and Allyson Felix (USA) clashed once again yesterday at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York, the latest meet in the Diamond League series. Asafa Powell Signs With New Sponsor

Former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell has ended his six-year association with Nike. According to reports in the Jamaican media, the popular American sportswear manufacturer offered Powell a financial package that was significantly lower than the amount in his contract that ended December last year. Ben Johnson Speaks Up; Book To Shed Light on Seoul Saga

Twenty-two years ago, Ben Johnson was stripped of his coveted 100m gold medal and world record at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea, after testing positive for steroids. The Jamaica-born sprinter entered and won that race as a Canadian citizen but became solely a Jamaican in the global media a few hours after the scandal broke. Now Johnson is speaking up. His autobiography, titled "Seoul to Soul" and due to be published in the fall, promises new evidence that he was a victim of sabotage. Full Story »
