The staging of the first ever Caribbean Games set for July 12-19 in the twin-island republic of Trinidad and Tobago has been cancelled due to the rise of swine flu in the country. Trinidad and Tobago has 18 confirmed cases of the virus and even though none is severe, health authorities have warned that the number could increase soon.
Organizers had expected that the Games, which include track & field, netball and volleyball competitions, would attract approximately 2,000 athletes, media personnel and officials from 40 countries.
