Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser, the 2008 Olympic 100m champion, flew out of the block
s like a bat out of a cavern to win the women's 100m today in a new national record and world leading 10.73 secs at the 12th IAAF World Championships, again beating her fast-closing teammate Kerron Stewart into second place with a personal best 10.75.Carmelita Jeter of the US finished third in 10.90 and defending champion Veronica Campbell-Brown fourth in a season best 10.95.
Fraser left everyone the moment she came out of the blocks and led throughout the race. She managed to hold on to give Jamaica its second sprint gold in two days. Yesterday, Usain Bolt won the men's 100m in a world record time of 9.58 secs.
