Haiti stepped onto the Caribbean winners podium over the weekend when Joseph Moise, its 800m runner won the event at the KBC Night of Athletics in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium on Saturday night (July 18). Running in the B race, Moise posted 1:47.87 secs. ahead of USA’s Matt Scherer 1:48.14. The 27-yr-old Moise has a lifetime best of 1:45.74 done in May 2002 and is gearing up to make a splash in Berlin.
In the women’s 100m, Tahesia Harrigan of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) snatched victory in 11.14 secs. supported by a strong headwind (3.4 m/s). She edged out LaVerne Jones of her neighboring US Virgin Islands (USVI).
Kenia Sinclair (Jam) was 2nd in the women’s 800m in 2.00.77 behind the 2008 Beijing 800m champion Kenya’s Pamela Jelimo (1.59.59). Grenada’s Neisha Bernard-Thomas was 6th in 2.02.34.
Jamaica’s Andrea Bliss (13.00) and Lacena Golding-Clark (13.06) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively behind USA’s Tiffany Ofili (12.92) in the women’s 100m hurdles. Lacena was running her 2nd consecutive 100m hurdles race in two days as she had a 6th place finish (13.14) in Paris, behind Olympics Champion USA’s Dawn Harper.
Cayman’s Cydonie Mothersill was 2nd in the women’s 200m in 22.87 secs. behind USA Charonda Williams (22.83). Mothersill, the former Clemson University Tiger, has a lifetime best 22.39 in 2005 and finished 8th in the Beijing 200m in 22.68 secs. behind winner Veronica Campbell-Brown (Jam).
Dorian Scott (Jam) was 4th in the Shot Put with a throw of 19.38m. This was well-below Scott’s personal best 21.45m and his season best 20.20m.
The Jamaican duo of Ainsley Waugh (20.75) and Chris Williams (20.87) was 4th and 5th, respectively in the 200m behind the winner Zimbabwe’s Brian Dzingai (20.61).
