Simpson Is Back With 11.04 Clocking

Jamaica’s Sherone Simpson, the Beijing Olympic 100m silver medalist, has finally returned. After enduring an injury-plagued season, Simpson has shown signs that she is fully recovered with a season best 11.04 secs (+2.8 m/s) at the Rovereto Athletics Meeting in Italy yesterday and an 11.15 clocking last Sunday at the XXX111 Cittadi Padova Track and Field meet in Italy.

The 25-yr-old 2006 Commonwealth 200m champion has a personal best 10.82 in the 100m.

At the Jamaica National Trials in June, Simpson did not make it to the 100m final and her time of 11.64 in the preliminaries placed her 10th in the 100m on a list headed by her MVP Track Club training partner Shelly-Ann Fraser (10.88 secs). Despite making the final of the 200m, Simpson withdrew, thereby dashing virtually all hopes of competing in Berlin.

With the 2009 track and field season coming to an end in the next few weeks, Simpson is already positioning herself as a legitimate challenge to Fraser, Kerron Stewart and Veronica Campbell-Brown next season.
