Is Jamaica’s Jura Levy Headed to LSU?

Jura, a 2nd-year student at South Plains College in Texas is a very hot commodity right now. Blaine Wiley, associate head coach at South Plains had this to say: “Jura has not yet decided on a college. She is being recruited by all of the top programs in the country and is scheduled for more official visits.” Wiley further explained that nothing is solid until she signs a National Letter of Intent, which should be in February or March of 2011. Levy, a graduate of Vere Technical High School in Jamaica, has a personal best 11.19 seconds in the 100m.

How fast do I have to run the 800m in high school to get a college scholarship?
The time depends on the individual as well as the college that you are planning to attend. For the top colleges such as LSU and Texas, a time of 1:52.00 or better will get the coaches’ attention. However, for lesser known programs or County Colleges a time of 1:54.00 or 1:55.00 will suffice. Of course, the faster you can run the better your chances.
